You can present a bilingual Spanish storytime, even if you aren’t a native speaker. Participants will learn how to get started planning, and incorporating books, rhymes, songs and movement activities into a successful Spanish bilingual storytime.

Anatomy of a Book Challenge | Hendricks C

As the pressure to remove and censor books from our libraries increases, librarians have to be prepared to defend everyone's right to read. Learn how one school corporation has dealt with several recent challenges to their school library collections and has been able to educate their staff and community on the tenants of intellectual freedom. While challenges can be stressful situations, the presentation will offer you several tools, resources and guidance to help you find some unintended positive outcomes when these contentious situations find their way to your library.

Dive into the planning, delivery, and ideating of how bringing low- and high-tech activities can enhance your audience. Libraries leave legacies for people of all ages, cultures, socio-economic status, and gender by offering safe places to access some of the best resources the world has to offer.

At this session, we will demo and trade preschool programming ideas with each other, with a special focus on storytime. Please bring either a full storytime outline, a list of your favorite books, activities, songs, or rhymes for storytime, or be ready to jot a few down on paper when you arrive. We’ll be looking for volunteers to step up to the “open mic” to share their favorites with the group! If everyone shares, we’ll all leave with tons of new songs, rhymes, activities, and book ideas! 

Running Writing Workshops | Hendricks D
Lori Caskey-Sigety 

Spanning a 20+year tenure in libraries, Lori Caskey-Sigety brings how the day-to-day victories and mishaps can make for excellent storytelling and writing. Participants will walk away with information on how to adapt writing workshops for youth. Lori currently is at the Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library, serving as a full-time reference Librarian.

Non-Traditional Library Services | Hendricks E
Jessi Brown 

Jessi Brown, the Teen Librarian at the Huntington City-Township Public Library will present some of the non-traditional library services that have been implemented at her library. Services such as the Teen Comfort Cabinet, an in-house social worker, ProjectKeep Warm, and more! There will be time after the presentation for attendees to discuss services their library may have or share ideas for services they hope to implement.
